How a BOPP Tape Plant Works: From Jumbo Film to Finished Roll

Coating, drying, slitting, slicing and packing — what each step does and which machine handles it.

BOPP tape coating line in a tape plant

1. Coating the jumbo film

Production starts with a jumbo roll of plain BOPP film. On the coating machine, the film is unwound, adhesive is applied by the coating head and the web enters the heater tunnel.

Machine length matters here: the adhesive has to dry before the film is rewound, so the tunnel length is planned around the drying the material needs.

2. Rewinding the coated jumbo

At the end of the coating line the dried film is rewound into a coated jumbo roll. This is the plant's semi-finished product — some plants sell it, most convert it.

3. Slitting into log rolls

A slitting machine or slitter rewinder unwinds the coated jumbo, slits it into narrower strips and rewinds each strip onto a core as a log roll.

4. Slicing into tape rolls

The slicer (log roll cutting machine) cuts each log roll into finished rolls. Our slicer catalogue lists a 1300 mm working width and 10,000 pieces in 8 hours.

5. Cores and packaging

Cores are cut to width on a core cutting machine and loaded onto mandrels by a core loader. Finished rolls are grouped and shrink wrapped for dispatch.
